exploring health as a form of wealth
Ever wish you knew exactly what to do to reach (and stay) at your optimal weight with ease?
It used to be such a mystery to me, especially for people over 40, and still is for most people I talk to. But, I’ve learned a thing or two over 20 years that I’d like to share with you. Losing body fat has nothing to do with eating smaller portion sizes or exercising more, and everything to do with teaching your body to use/burn extra body fat as fuel (when it would rather not). Here's how to do that: 1) Avoid spiking your blood sugar, especially at breakfast and before bed (high fiber and protein, lean toward savory vs sweet, E.M.L.O.= eat more less often) 2) Deplete your glucose (sugar) stores so your body has to go find another source of fuel. It takes time for it to develop the enzymes and cellular structure to do this (fasted movement, and after meal movement are two ways to help) 3) Match the right activities with the right time of day by sticking to a 24 hour framework (yes, “when” matters as much as “what”). 4) Reduce the ‘taxes’ on your body (like stress, lack of sleep, and industrial seed oils) so it can start to heal at the cellular level. Body fat is the most labor-intensive fuel source for your body to use, so if it isn’t operating efficiently, it will look for easier ways to get fuel…cue carb cravings. These 4 things don’t really matter as much when youth is on your side, but cells age and systems become dis-regulated. Cravings and fatigue take over, and the result is an inflexible, poor-functioning metabolism. Throw an extreme diet or ten in the mix and things get even worse. The body begins to live paycheck to paycheck and then it’s only a matter of time before illness or injuries take hold. It’s a debt cycle that is hard to dig yourself out of without the right information. It makes me happy to give this hard-won information to you, but there is only so much I can give in this format. The devil is in the details of the 4 points above. That’s what I work on with my clients - putting all of this together in a way that makes sense and is easy to take action on. First we build a wellness plan that acts as a roadmap to better health - looking at where you are currently and what metrics are important to keep an eye on. Then we lay out a framework for your day, learn to build Money Meals, know how to move your body for longevity. We wrap it up in a pretty bow with my “high ROI” routines method so you get the best results for the least expense of time and energy. This process is almost identical to creating a financial plan for retirement (but health is the asset instead of money). We do this together in a 6-week group strategy workshop. You will have a working wellness plan and know exactly what to do when you are done. In fact, you will probably already be doing a lot of it by the end and starting to see some results. It’s best for those who are mid-life to retirement age, like structure, value long term goals, and aren’t looking for extreme quick fixes.
