exploring health as a form of wealth
One of the things I’ve learned from helping people grow wellthy is that it’s very common for them to feel overwhelmed at the beginning. I’ve heard something like this 100’s of times. ‘I want to lose weight but I don’t know where to start.’ The reality is that the path to wellness is wide open to anyone, and it’s so much easier than most people have been led to believe. Here are 4 steps to consider in your journey to wellth. 1. Treat Your Health Like a Bank Account If you think of your health like a bank account, all the healthy habits you do are your currency. Some things like eating an apple or pacing while on the phone are like your pennies, nickels, and dimes. Other actions like walking after a meal or adding more vegetables to your diet are like the $1 and $5 bills. No matter what the action is, though, it all adds up. If you keep putting money in your account, you will continue to grow wellthy over time. 2. Realize that Good Health is More Achievable Than You Think Health is so achievable by so many people, but still it alludes them. Why? I think it’s because of our confusing fitness culture that's full of extreme measures. It seems so overwhelming. There is no need to join CrossFit, take up running, join a gym, or eliminate entire food groups from your diet. Many of those things are false illusions of healthy activities because they tear down the body and take money out of your health account. 3. Develop a Wellth Mindset The initial conversations I have with people are so valuable because I help open the doors to a new way to look at health and wellness - one that is easy, achievable, and consistent. I ask them what they want for their future. Then we work backwards to build the habits that will get them there on autopilot. So you just need to ask yourself, what is it that you want for your health? How do you want to look and feel in the next 3 months, year, or 5 years? And then take action to start putting your wellth mindset and wellth habits in place now. 4. Create A Wellth Balance Sheet An easy way to get started is to create a wellness balance sheet by taking inventory of your health assets and liabilities. Get out a piece of paper and draw a line down the middle. List all the good things you have going for your health on one side. Then list all the health risks you have on the other side. This activity will helpful to know what you want to grow and where you have room to improve. After that, you can create a plan of action. I call it a Wellth Portfolio, and it becomes your roadmap for you growing your health investments. This is unique way to look at your health, but this approach works for financial planning, and it works for wellth planning, too. Keep Growing Wellthy This process helps you unlock your unique path to the healthier life you're dreaming of. This is where you will find the peace of mind and confidence that only comes from a solid long term approach. This is how you keep growing wellthy.
