exploring health as a form of wealth
My dad is a DIYer. Seal the driveway? Yep. Change the oil on his truck? Check. Build a grate in the ground to keep the cows in? Done. Well, sort of. He tore that one out because it didn't work. But still. He's always willing to give it a go on his own - for some things. He does draw the line somewhere, though. Doing his own shoulder surgery was out of his league, so he hired that one out. Taxes?...outsourced. Some things are ok to do it yourself while others just need the expert to step in and help. My dad knows this all too well because he was the expert for 30 years. He was a financial advisor for Edward Jones, and his clients trusted him. He built relationships that mattered because he helped people grow and protect their wealth for retirement. Makes sense, right? Many people just don't feel comfortable being a DIYer for their financial future. They seek out financial advisors to help them navigate saving, investing, and retirement options because they want to get it right and stay on track with their goals. In a way, I followed in his footsteps. No, I'm not a financial advisor, but I am a wellth advisor. I help my clients grow and protect their health for retirement. Sometimes it takes working with a professional to keep your health intact so you can thrive now and enjoy retirement later. Too many people ignore their health or try to DIY it without a proper perspective on the long term nature of wellness. Then they end up in the middle of a health crisis that could have been avoided with a little guidance and tweaking along the way. So, here are five reasons to work with a wellth advisor: 1. To help you get healthy in the most effective way without damaging your health long term
When I say "effective" I don't mean quick. A fad diet will get results quickly, but they won't last, so they aren't effective. They also have the potential to do more harm than good for your body by slowing your metabolism or messing with your hormones. 2. To hold you accountable for achieving your wellness goals and helping you keep your eye on the prize It's easy to lose sight of what you are trying to accomplish when life gets busy. Distraction is one of the biggest roadblocks I see my clients struggle with prior to working together. That's why we work on setting up 4 keystone routines that create a cascade of wellness throughout their day - essentially putting healthy on autopilot so it happens naturally. 3. To receive education around key wellness matters that have the potential to affect you now or in the future There are SOOO many things I talk with my clients about that simply aren't on their radar, yet. Sometimes I feel like a road construction worker holding up road signs about the curves ahead. Are you paying attention to the 7 most common chronic diseases? How about pelvic health? Mouth breathing? Have you come up with a plan for changing hormone levels as you age? These are all insights a wellth advisor can give you. 4. To benefit from the experience from serving so many clients and learning from their successes and failures I've been an exercise physiologist for over 20 years and have worked with 100's of clients in over 5000 client sessions. I've naively done the wrong things in the past. I've tested a ton of protocols on all kinds of people with different bodies, ages, likes, and lifestyles. I've followed traditional advise and watched clients fail. Then I figured out a system that actually works, and it's SOOO much easier than people have been led to believe. Working with a professional gives you the advantage of all this knowledge without having to go through it yourself. 5. To have someone who's proactively measuring and giving you the tools to know when you're on or off track You can't change what you can't measure, but identifying the data tools you need to reassure yourself that you are on track to reach your goals is different for everyone. That's why it's critical to find the system of monitoring your health trend that works for you.
